Sorry for the absence folks! holy moly it has been awhile since my last post!

To catch you up on where Ive been and what Ive been up too, basically I have been crazy busy at work.

My yard maintenance business took off a lot faster than I expected! so much so that I am in the process of registering it and going legit.

"Git R Done Yard Maintenance" is my business name ( yes I ripped that prize winning name off of Larry the Cable Guy) but no worries hes American and I am way up north in Canukistan.

Also been busy building a deck onto the back of our house, no big deal really except that I built the entire thing from wood pallets (skids) which I got for free from Geoff Fafard (yes the famous artist) who happens to live and do his artsy work here in the little village of Pense.

Also took my family up north to Hudson Bay Saskatchewan ( a different Hudson Bay than the one that connects to the ocean) more specifically we went to Ruby lake, great fishing! our son "Hammy" caught 6 good sized jacks (northern pike) all I caught was 3!!

I also bought an air conditioner for the house, and a 2002 Ford E350 van and have my mighty Ford Bronco up for sale, selling it for 1500 OBO or for trade, Im looking for a large snow blower, or a 14 ft aluminum fishhing boat, or a mid 80s 175 enduro (on/off road motor bike)

My wireless internet crashed also, hence the extended vacation from the cyber world, right now I am on my laptop at the STC bus terminal stealling their free wife lol, Ill have to find time to use the villages free computer (which is slower than all git out) at least once per week to keep on top of this blog, I dont like being gone for so long.

Anywho, thats about all I have for now, if I think of anything else Ill come back and post it.

I found this jewelry box for $1.00.

It was a simple and easy redo.

 I washed the box well and applied two coats of white spray paint.

When the paint had dried I sanded it down to give it a shabby feel and then gave it a clear coat of spray.

And of course- the before and after!

The first thing you need to consider is where you’ll be crafting your projects. Most people take up woodworking in their garage or basement. This is fine; just remember that you’ll need some space to store materials and the finished product. You’ll want a space that is easy to move around in and that you can keep organized.

If you’re using power tools, you’ll need easily accessible power outlets. Remember that power tools can be quite noisy, so take into consideration the comfort of your family and your neighbors.

You’ll need a workbench which doesn’t necessarily have to be elaborate. It’s a space for you to work on and keep your plans out in the open.

You can buy commercially made workbenches at most home supply stores. When choosing a workbench, look for one with a wood top, or another smooth, non-marking top, so that the surface doesn’t scuff the wood you use for your projects. Storage underneath the bench is nice if your budget allows a model with built-in drawers and cabinets.

Choose a workbench that fits comfortably in your shop space and that matches the types of projects you think you’ll be working on. A small workbench will do for crafting toys, but you’ll need a larger space if you’re making armoires.But you’re getting started with woodworking as a hobby. Why not make your own workbench? This will give you valuable experience and will become one of the most useful items in your shop! We’ve included a simple workbench plan in this book. Try diving right in with and
start your workshop out with a piece you made yourself!  

It’s a good idea to have a bin where you can place operating manuals from your tools. This way, you won’t lose them and they’ll be easily accessible.

We also recommend a good tool box to store your tools and a box such as a tackle box to sore nails, screws, etc. in. As with most any projects, the better organized you are, the more efficient you’ll be. You’ll also save yourself a lot of stress by being able to locate what you need easily.Some people like to have a peg board over their workbench to hang their tools on. This is a good idea as is to have a bulletin board so you can hang the plans for your current project.

Last, you’ll need good lighting. You can get shop lights inexpensively at discount stores like Wal-Mart or Home Depot.

Now that you have a place to work, what do you need to get started? The obvious answer would be wood, which we’ll talk about a little later. What’s the second obvious answer? Tools!

Last Friday we got home from my wife’s CT Scan that she had to see if the Chemo is doing anything productive (we get the results June 4, on my birthday), anyway, we get home and there is a pile of dirt sitting beside my driveway, at first I thought the village or gas company was digging up my yard for some sort of repair but Nope that was not the case. For the life of me I couldn’t sort out what and why that pile of dirt was doing there.

Saturday roles around and I’m sitting out on the front step having my morning coffee and clearing the fuzz out of my brain when my neighbours start arriving unexpectedly with wheel barrows and shovels and a rather large number of flowers, I ask what is going on ? by this time there are about 10 people in my front yard, They told me that they were here to plant flowers so my wife has something pretty to look at from her bed by the window (my wife’s hospital bed is in the living room next to the bay window as she can no longer climb stairs), my neighbours proceeded to fill the huge flower boxes that I built last summer out of recycled barn wood with fresh clean topsoil, while others tackled the flower beds below the bay window and along the south side of the house.

Wasn’t long before they had the planter boxes and flower beds full of dirt and flowers, and I must admit the yard looks amazing now! then they moved onto our veggie garden, they fired up my tiller, someone brought another and between the 2 tillers had the veggie garden turned over on the inside of 30 minutes (it’s a rather big garden , 30 feet wide by 146 feet long), they then proceeded to plant most of it with potatoes, radishes, beets, onions,sweet potato,and turnips, they left me enough space so I can plant my corn carrots, cucumbers lettuce and tomatoes , this was unexpected and we are very grateful for their help.

My wife just sat on a lounge chair outside in the shade and cried tears of happiness as our neighbours went about digging and planting, I helped them of course as I am able bodied, I kept thanking them repeatedly while in a state of shock, I was informed that there are even more flowers coming today (Monday) and that they would be back to plant them for us, I served everyone coffee and iced tea and thanked them again.

This is small town/village life, when someone is terminally ill they rally and start organizing various ways to help out who ever it is that is ill and their families, I held my composure while everyone was present, but later when I had a few moments to be alone , I stepped behind my work shop and quietly thanked god for having blessed us with such good neighbours, it not only helped my wife, but helped me, it was something that yes I could do myself, however with the stresses of taking care of my wife, taking care of our son “Hammy” , multiple trips weekly to the city for Doctors,etc. just taking care of business, it would have taken me all summer to do what my neighbours did in a few short hours.

Am I grateful? yes Eternally, and I will pay it forward repeatedly as I am a big believer in Karma , and being kind to others costs nothing and feels very good, it also has it’s own rewards, I may have taken a small blow to my pride having my neighbours do what they did for my wife and family , but at the same time I am elated and grateful, my pride will heal and I can help our neighbours in various ways, loaning them my tiller or lawn tractor , helping them plant, do errands for them etc .

Anyway, I am off to finish my morning coffee and spend some time with my wife before we head to yet another doctor appointment, Happy Monday Everyone, remember to express your love often,don’t take tomorrow for granted, and be kind to others , Peace to All.

Just FYI, I will be posting each new project in the evenings because my days are so crazy! Here goes Day two of our Countdown!

       Doesnt this post title make you want to snuggle up in your Christmas p.j.s,  and watch The Sound of Music? " The Hills Are Alive"! Teehee!

 This project is great for those last minute gifts, when you are all out of paper, or you just dont want corny penguins that SCREAM "this gift is meant for a child"! Dont get me wrong, the penguins are my kids favorites too, but they sometimes just dont do the trick! I love making my gifts unique by using various papers around my house, and I love dressing them up with little cards, bells, jute, hemp, yarn, and other silly Doodads I find! These gifts are just a few of the many ways you can personalize your gift and make it special!

I used Roberts Brown paper bags, (Is any one else more than bummed that Roberts is gone?:( ) Butcher paper, and newspaper. I have also used old Piano music as wrapping paper, (which is one of my absolute Faves), and old pages torn out of damaged books. They all make for Great Wrapping paper!

I used the car section of the paper for my young brother in laws gift!

Green Yarn did the trick on this package. I also used stickers to personalize it!

A Cute little Tag made this Package pop!

I love to use bells around this time of year. Anywhere you can add them, DO!

Love Butcher paper, and I use it a ton. It is fun to let your kids decorate it for a birthday party gift, or a teacher gift. Sorry my kids are already in bed, or I would have had them draw on it :)! I love that it can make a card and wrapping paper all in one!~

Arent these so much more unique than those cheesy cartoon characters?!

Dont you love my dried apple blossom branches, decked out for the holidays! Tis the Season, Right?!

We moved from Alberta to Saskatchewan about 10 years ago, and for the Last 9 years my wife has begged and pleaded with her family to come down and visit, they always refused, the excuses were many, ranging from “it’s too far” to “our kid doesn’t like long trips” to ” why would I want to come to Saskatchewan? it’s too boring of a drive” to many many more excuses.

Now that she has cancer, her family each take their turn coming down to see her, you’d think this would be a good thing, but it’s not really. They come down to one up each other, it’s all for show, to keep up appearances, so they can say they have seen her and gossip amongst each other.

It’s infuriating ! my wife is more hurt knowing that her family does not genuinely care about her but have made the trip just so they can say they did it, she is happy to see them and it does lift her spirits, but it saddens her to know that the only reason they come here is because she is sick.

When her Mom came down (Foster Mom), she tried to take over the house and run my wife’s life, she took down the window blinds in our living room and replaced them with curtains, she rearranged our furniture, and was quick to condemn the house for being so small (it’s a 1 and a half story homesteader house built in 1910) , it’s a nice house, just big enough for the 3 of us and our dog. Anyway her visit stressed my wife out to no end and made her physically ill. I won’t even go into how stressed I was, suffice it to say her Mom hates me and would stick a knife in my back if she thought for 1 second that she could get away with it.

It just hurts me to know they come here under false pretences, inevitably the conversation they have with me always turns into #1 what is going to happen to our son if the unthinkable happens to my wife, the answer always infuriates them, he stays with me. #2 where are you planning to lay your wife to rest , again, no where, she wants to be cremated and have her ashes scattered here and there,then the questions about her will begin, they are angry to learn that everything is left to our son and myself.

All I can say is Thank God I live in Canada where we are equal to anyone and everyone else and have the same rights as everyone else, my wife’s family has very limited legal chances of winning a case should any of them try to challenge me or her last will and testament, and they certainly can not try to take our son, well they could try but would have no justifiable cause.

We have already lawyered up, and expressed our concerns about her family, our lawyer went through everything making sure everything was legal and notarized my wifes will, he says not to worry , her family doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell should they try any legal action against me, or us, we went so far as to ask CPS to come out and check out our son’s well being and to verify that he is happy, well adjusted, and all his wants and needs are being met or exceeded, they handed our lawyer a very favorable report.

It truly is sad that we have had to take the time to do all this, especially when my wife is so sick, but in the long run it is for our son’s and my own protection against the vileness of her family.
My family has rallied behind us and are ready to help in anyway needed, my wife takes comfort in that and can focus on fighting Cancer and not her family.
